Workshop Description

Cultural differences and misunderstandings can easily happen with immigrant families.

Do you ever wonder how to better understand the Chinese families that you work with?

During this workshop, the focus will be on exploring the daycare experience of Chinese immigrant families and how it is affected by three key factors: language barriers, culturally different family structures, and parental expectations on daycares.

We will also investigate methods for promoting communication, understanding, and cooperation between Chinese immigrant families and early childhood educators.

This workshop is being facilitated by an educated Instructor who is Chinese and also had 8 years of experience working in Chinese schools before working in Early Childhood Education.

Meet the Facilitator

ECE, Master of Education Chris Yin Ren

I am an ECE with a passion for co-working with young children and their families to create a learning environment that supports children's holistic development. I am also a mother of two children, which provides me a unique perspective that encompasses both the viewpoints of a parent and an educator. Before becoming an early childhood educator, I obtained my Master of education from SFU, and worked as a Chinese teacher in Great Vancouver for 8 years, which has endowed me with a distinctive viewpoint on bilingualism and the value of cultural variety in the field of education.
