Meet Sue and Caren

Workshop: Projects are Spun from Authentic Inquiry

Co-owners of Childgarden Preschool and Discoveries Sue and Caren Childgarden

Sue and Caren are the co-owners of Childgarden Preschool & Discoveries in Port Moody, BC, and are deeply inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy. Both Sue and Caren each have over 20 years of experience working with young children and for 10 years have been sharing our passion for presenting and mentoring other educators. Sue and Caren both have the immense honour of being recipients of The Prime Minister’s Award of Excellence is 2012 and 2017, respectively.

Workshop Description:

Would you like to learn more about Inquiry Based Learning?  In this workshop we will take a deep dive into a project that was ignited by the curiosities of bugs and spiders which ignited a long term investigation.  Whether you refer to it as Responsive or Emergent Curriculum or Inquiry Based Learning, join us to discover how an ordinary moment has potential to evolve into a long term project.

Goal:

Demonstrate the multiple ways children learn when their inquiries are sparked from their authentic interests.

Meet Julie

Workshop: Invitations to play

Early Years Consultant Julie Hansen

I have been an Early Childhood Educator for 20 years, having received my Diploma in Early Childhood Education from Douglas College. Since then, I have gained experience in a variety of areas within the field of Early Childhood Education: Director of a preschool, supervisor of after-school care as well as 3-5 and Infant Toddler programs and centre management. My primary focus has evolved to encompass team leadership, management training and program development. I have had articles published in provincial and national ECE journals on the topic of emergent curriculum and leadership. My goal as an Early Childhood Educator and facilitator is to support fellow educators and early years professionals in providing high-quality early learning experiences for children and families.

Workshop Description:

Join us in discovering the value and importance of provocations—we as educators can support child development by following the children’s interests as we create environments and experiences for children to explore.

Presented by Julie Hansen.
